THUNDER 50CCMotoTec Thunder 50cc 2-Stroke Kids Gas Dirt Bike
The MotoTec Thunder 50cc 2-Stroke Kids Gas Dirt Bike is designed for off-road and competition use only on private property and approved motocross courses. It is not DOT-approved, has no VIN, no street-legal lights or signals,...
Real dirt bike. Parent-trusted.
High-performance off-road build with advanced lithium battery technology, brushless motor, full hydraulic suspension, and hydraulic disc brakes.
Why this one
Most kids dirt bikes are toys with tube-steel frames and drum brakes. The Thunder gets a Chromoly steel frame, disc brakes front and rear, and real inverted fork suspension — the components that motocross bikes use. Plus two layers of parental speed control: start a new rider at 10 MPH, dial up to 25 MPH as skill grows.
Throttle response that pulls hard.

Everything riders ask before they buy.
What age is this dirt bike appropriate for?
MotoTec rates the Thunder 50cc for riders 13 years and older with a maximum rider weight of 150 lbs. The 22-inch seat height suits most teens comfortably. For younger or smaller riders, MotoTec also makes the Pioneer 49cc (for ages 10+) — but the Thunder's Chromoly frame, disc brakes, and adjustable throttle limiter make it the better choice as kids grow.
Is it street legal?
No — the Thunder 50cc is for off-road and competition use only. It does not meet California emissions standards, cannot be registered for OHRV, and cannot be registered with the California DMV with a green or red sticker. California buyers can ride it only in closed-course competition. Anywhere in the US, it's intended for private property, motocross tracks, and approved off-road areas — never on public roads.
Does my kid need protective gear?
Yes — always. At minimum: DOT-approved helmet, gloves, eye protection, knee/elbow pads, and proper footwear (closed-toe boots, no sneakers). The Thunder ships without protective gear; this is the rider's responsibility before first ride. Adult supervision required for all riders under 18.
How does the speed limiter work?
The Thunder has two layers of speed control: a throttle limiter (restricts how far the twist-grip throttle can open) and an adjustable speed limiter (caps the engine's top speed). Both are easy for a parent to dial in — start conservative for a new rider and dial up as skill grows. Top unrestricted speed is 25 MPH; with the limiter fully engaged, new riders can safely learn at 10–15 MPH.
How much assembly is required?
Ships in a 64 lb box (44 x 13 x 23 inches) approximately 85% assembled. Final assembly typically takes 30–60 minutes with basic tools (included in box). Tasks include: attaching the front wheel, handlebars, pedals, and mirror-style accessories; filling the fuel tank with the correct 32:1 unleaded/oil mixture; and performing a pre-ride safety check. MotoTec's printed manual walks through each step.
What kind of fuel does it use?
Unleaded gasoline mixed with 2-stroke oil at a 32:1 ratio. Use standard pump gas (87 octane is fine) and high-quality 2-stroke oil from any auto-parts store. Never run straight gas — the engine will seize. The 1.6-liter tank gives 10+ miles per fill, which is a full afternoon of casual riding.
What's the warranty and how do I claim it?
MotoTec covers the Thunder 50cc with a 30-day parts replacement warranty from delivery date — shorter than what you'll see on electric vehicles or power stations because of the higher wear rate on gas components. Swag House is an authorized MotoTec dealer — contact us first and we'll open the warranty claim with MotoTec's US service team on your behalf. For extended coverage, CPS Accidental Warranty plans are recommended — especially if you're shipping to Hawaii or Alaska where MotoTec does not provide after-sales services.
Can I pay monthly with Affirm?
Yes. At $409, the Thunder works out to roughly $34/month over 12 months with Affirm's 0% APR option, if you qualify at checkout. Look for the Affirm monthly payment display under the price — it shows your approved rate before you commit.
What's in the box?
The dirt bike (~85% pre-assembled), a basic tool kit for final assembly, the owner's manual with break-in and maintenance instructions, and your 30-day MotoTec parts warranty registration. Protective gear (helmet, gloves, goggles) is NOT included — required before first ride and sold separately.
Where does it ship from?
US warehouse, freight carrier with standard ground delivery. Same-day processing on orders placed before 2pm CT. Transit typically 3–7 business days to the contiguous 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii require a freight quote and do not have MotoTec after-sales service — contact us first.
